Dynamics of Neuronal Activity of the Parietal Associative Zones of the Cat Cerebral Cortex in Sleep-Wakefulness Cycle
نویسنده
چکیده
The dynamics of neuronal activity of the so-called association zones of the parietal regions of the cerebral cortex in the sleep-wakefulness cycle has been studied in chronic cats. It is conjectured that the changes in neuronal activity of the association zones of the parietal regions of the cerebral cortex over sleep-wakefulness cycle display the dynamics of cognitive processes, which on their part, are determined just by the transformation (both quantitative and qualitative) of the neuronal activity of the cerebral cortex, in general, and of its association zones, in particular. © 2007 Bull. Avalanche Analysis from Multielectrode Ensemble Recordings in Cat, Monkey, and Human Cerebral Cortex during Wakefulness and Sleep
Self-organized critical states are found in many natural systems, from earthquakes to forest fires, they have also been observed in neural systems, particularly, in neuronal cultures. However, the presence of critical states in the awake brain remains controversial. Here, we compared avalanche analyses performed on different in vivo preparations during wakefulness, slow-wave sleep, and REM slee...
متن کاملNeuroprotective effects of Tiliacora triandra leaf extract in a mice model of cerebral ischemia reperfusion
Objective: The present study investigated possible neuroprotective effects of ethanolic extract of Tiliacora triandra leaf against cerebral ischemic-reperfusion injury in mice. Materials and Methods: Forty male Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) mice were randomly divided into five groups: (1) Sham + 10% Tween 80, (2) bilateral common carotid artery occlu...
متن کاملSexual Dimorphism in Surface Anatomical Parameters of Human Cerebral Cortex in Different Lebes in Normal and Neurodegenerative Subjects: a Stereological and Macroscopical Study
Purpose: This study sought to determine sex differences in surface anatomical parameters (thickness and surface areas) of human cerebral cortex in different lobes of the left hemisphere in normal right-handed subjects and right-handed subjects suffering from Alzheimer and Parkinson's diseases. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was performed on 72 normal human brains...
متن کاملThe effect of Gallic acid on prenatal entorhinal cortex and CA1/CA3 hippocampal areas in trimethyltin intoxication rat
Background: Prenatal intoxication with trimethyletin (TMT) induces widespread neuronal death in the central nervous system by inducing oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant effect of gallic acid (GA) on the neuronal density of the entorhinal cortex, hippocampal pyramidal cells and oxidative stress parameters in the fetal forebrain following TMT intoxication. ...
متن کاملBrain activation and hypothalamic functional connectivity during human non-rapid eye movement sleep: an EEG/fMRI study.
Regional differences in sleep EEG dynamics indicate that sleep-related brain activity involves local brain processes with sleep stage specific activity patterns of neuronal populations. Macroscopically, it is not fully understood which cerebral brain regions are involved in the successive discontinuation of wakefulness. We simultaneously used EEG and functional MRI on 9 subjects (6 female: mean...
